Freebie - the perfect engagement gift!

It seems that everyone we know is either getting married or engaged this year (could this is be a sign that we are getting old?) So, cue the need for an awesome engagement gift. Finding the right present can be really hard, and sometimes quite expensive so here is our solution (and bonus! It will make you look super creative and crafty).

Crate full of "Firsts"

The idea behind this is, each drink represents a "first" for the couple once they are married/engaged. The occasions include - first Christmas together, first house, first anniversary, first dinner party and first baby. Once the couple reaches each one of these goals they get to open the bottle and celebrate!

It is something fun to look forward too for them and you can theme each drink to fit with the occasion!

What you will need:
  • 1 crate. Either one that you get beer in or just a straight brought one
  • Tissue paper
  • 5 different types of drinks. You can do a mix of wine, cider, beer, spirits or go for non-alcoholic types like sparkling grape or apple juice. Just be mindful though, that these might go unopened for a while (if people play by the rules!) so it is best to buy things that have a long shelf life
  • Paper
  • Printer
  • Craft knife
  • Ruler
  • Paint colour of your choice

How to make it:

First print off the labels below on a thickish card. You want to make sure each label is around 2.5 inches wide and 7 inches high. Cut around the edges using your craft knife and then cut out the circles in the middle. This can sometimes be a little difficult so it helps to take it slow. Once that is done, bend at the top about .5cm from the bottom of the circle. Pop these over your chosen bottles.

Now for the crate. Print the word below on an a4 piece of paper. You want to print this at a size that will fit as a stencil for the front of your crate. Cut out the black letters making sure to keep the white paper fully in tack. This will mean you will need to leave a joining piece between the white middle of the R and the piece below. Once you have your stencil, tape this on to the front section of your crate making sure it stays flat. Paint over the stencil with the colour of your choosing and wait to dry. Once the paint is set, gently pull off the stencil.

Finally pack the crate with tissue paper, pop in your bottles and you are done! You now have the perfect, creative, engagement gift.
